If you are fortunate enough to have a cinema nearby that has Imax technology then you simply must pay it a visit. Their mantra is, “You are not just watching a movie, you are in the movie,” and they are spot on. It is an incredible visual and audible experience that will leave you wobbly at the knees.
So when are we going to see the Imax experience converse into the world of casino games?
Technically, games are suited to the 3D world because they are already modelled in 3D before being rendered down to fit into our 2D world, so the technology is there in as much as creating the game.
But does the casino world and mobile gamers with the likes of Unibet really want it and the answer, as always, is it depends.
The video game industry already has some titles in 3D, more notably Killzone 3, Gran Turismo 5 and Tron: Evolution, but the feedback has not been great.
These are games with huge depth, big worlds and a wonderful sense of realism in their own right, but there aren’t any casino games like this on the market at present. That isn’t to say that there won’t be the need for them in the future.
After all the kids of today and going to be the gamblers of tomorrow and when you are used to playing in the world of Grand Theft Auto it’s a bit of a come down to play a one armed bandit.
So for now, the old classics are not in need of a 3D touch. There are 3D titles in all the most common casino games, but just like the video games they aren’t setting the world alight.
But the future…now that’s a different kettle of fish. When our casino games get more creative, introduce characterisation and real depth in game play then why not immerse ourselves in an Imax style world.
